From Farmer to Blacksmith: The Professions in Call Me Human
From farmer to blacksmith
Last night and early this morning we focused on one thing: professions. On Veyl you live off what you gather, build and craft yourself. So now every craft gets its own place, its own workbench and its own progress.
Eleven professions, and one more to come
The recipe book now lists all professions at a glance, no scrolling: Farmer, Forager, Mining, Cooking, Alchemy, Blacksmith, Jeweler, Carpenter, Tailor and Tinkering. On top of that there is Fishing, which you learn right at the water. Each profession levels up on its own, up to level 10, through exactly what you do in it. Forge a lot and you become a better blacksmith. Forage a lot and over time you find more. The twelfth profession, the Creature Keeper, comes later.

Every workbench grows with you
Each profession has its own workbench, which you build yourself and place on your plot. At first it is made of wood and stone. As your profession grows, you upgrade it: first with Kyrit, later with crystal. Every stage unlocks new recipes.
At the workbench you see at a glance what you can build right now and what is still missing. If you like, you can hide everything you can't make yet. Then your hero hammers for a moment, and the new tool hops into your backpack.

You discover recipes yourself
At first you don't know everything that is possible. When you pick up something new, your hero often gets an idea, for example for a berry skewer. Other recipes are hidden in blueprints waiting for you somewhere on Veyl. Anything you don't know yet shows up as a question mark in the recipe book. That way every discovery stays a small moment.
Furniture made by hand
Our favorite profession right now: the Carpenter. At the carpenter's bench you make crates, a bed, books, jugs and much more for your home. Everything you build there goes straight to your furniture, and you place it wherever you like.

Fishing with a feel for it
Fishing is now a profession too. Hold the button to build up power and let go to cast. When a fish bites, an exclamation mark appears above your head and the controller rumbles briefly. Then you reel it in with care, without putting too much tension on the line. We'll show you soon what that looks like at the water.
A small look behind the scenes
It mattered to us that all professions follow the same rules. For us, a new profession is just a new entry with a workbench, recipes and stages, not a new program. That makes it easy to add more professions later, and everything feels equally familiar.
