First gameplay video from our snowy test world in a pixel RPG

Our first gameplay video

Until now we have shown you pictures. Today, for the first time, we are showing you how Call Me Human feels in motion: almost two minutes of gameplay from our snowy test world, with no cuts and no tricks, just the way we walk around there ourselves.

Why a test world?

Before a new biome moves into the big world, we want to know whether it feels right. So we built a small area of its own, just for trying things out. Here things are allowed to go wrong without breaking anything else. It also let us test a new way of building: the ground is one single large picture, and on top of it stand rocks, trees, chests and creatures you can actually interact with.

A winter village you can enter

In the middle of the snow lies a small village. Light glows in the windows, and you can walk into every house. Inside it is warm and quiet, while outside the snow keeps falling. The snowfall lies like a fine veil over everything, including your character, and a calm winter tune of its own plays along. If you look closely, you can see your footprints in the snow. They stay behind you for a while and then slowly fade away.

Here is all of it in motion:

Gear, provisions and combat

At the very start you stand in the snow with barely any clothes on. We thought that was a bit too cold. So a chest full of gear waits for you right at the start, and more chests with loot are scattered around the area. Inside you will find provisions, for example: berries and mushrooms wrapped in fibres. They keep you full for a long time and give you more stamina for a while.

You are not alone out there, though. Creatures wait between the rocks, from armoured beetles to a wolf, and they will attack.

What comes next

What you see here is a test world. A lot will still change before the snow gets its permanent place in the big world. For us it was still a special moment, because for the first time a whole area feels like a piece of the finished game.
