Enemy Test: Can We Beat All 39 Creatures?

We're running an enemy test

Today we tried something we've been looking forward to for a long time: an enemy test. We built a small test world just for this, one long path where all 39 creatures we've made for Call Me Human so far wait in a row. From tiny critters all the way to the Metal Beetle Queen.

To be honest right away: for this test, the enemies are set extra easy and cozy. This isn't the finished combat system or the finished world yet. We only wanted to know one thing: do the animations fit? How does it look when a creature attacks, gets hit and goes down? And does it all start to feel like an adventure?

Can we make it to the last enemy?

That was the big question when we set off. Come along in the video for the whole walk. On the way we go from level 1 to level 4, eat a few snacks for more stamina and strength, and pick up whatever the creatures drop.

The Great Desert Bird was the first moment we paused for a second. It's much bigger than our hero, with a tail like a fan. Good thing the test is on cozy.

What we learned

Every creature has its own way of moving. Some crawl, some flutter, an old ember spirit floats and glows when it gets hit. That's exactly what a test like this is for: we see them all side by side and notice right away where a movement still feels off and where something already looks really good.

We also found a few small things along the way that we're now smoothing out one by one. That's part of it, it's why we test.

So, did we make it?

Yes! After the Metal Beetle Queen and a whole row of other creatures, only a little forest goblin was left in our way. Enemy 39 of 39, and then the path was clear.
