Looting chests in our cozy pixel RPG: take only what you want
A chest, and you decide
Until now, opening a chest on Veyl was over in a second: the lid went up, and everything inside went straight into your backpack. Sounds handy, but while playing it kept bugging us. Not everyone wants to take everything. Sometimes your backpack is almost full, sometimes you only need the berries and not the third stack of stones.
So we rebuilt our chests. When you open one now, a small window pops up right next to it. It shows what's inside, with a picture, a name and how many there are. Below that, you see how full your backpack already is, so you know up front whether it all fits.
Take what you need

You go down the list and take a whole stack, or just one piece of it. In a hurry? One button takes everything at once. If the chest ends up empty, the window closes on its own.
Whatever you leave behind stays in the chest. You can come back later and pick up the rest, even after you quit and start the game again. It works the same with mouse and keyboard as it does with a controller.
While testing we noticed something else: the opening sound was more of a bubbling noise than a wooden lid. We took that out. Now all you hear is the lid swinging open.
Creatures leave something behind too

Chests aren't the only place to find things. Creatures now drop something when you defeat them, like a few berries or some fiber. We decide what each kind can drop, and you won't get everything every time.
Right now we're building the other direction as well: you'll be able to open an empty chest too, so you can store your own things in it.
Tomorrow is going to be very exciting. That's all we're saying for now.
See you soon,
