Creatures on the move, cliffs with edges

What happened today

Yesterday was all about the creatures and rocks of Veyl. We wanted the first stage to stop feeling like a sketch and start feeling like a place where something is truly alive. So we gave the creatures movement, gave the landscape edges and depth, and wrote a lot down along the way so you can read up on what is waiting for you on Veyl.

The highlight of the day: twenty creatures of the first stage now have finished animations in eight directions. They walk, attack, take hits and go down, all with the same level of detail as our hero.

What we got done

  • Creatures with a voice: The Sand Tongue, the Crystal Spider and the Spine Stalker got their own alien sounds. Every creature sounds different when it spots you, gets hit or is defeated.
  • Cliff walls and canyons: Veyl has new cliffs and rock walls. Canyons and cracks now wind through the land like old riverbeds instead of running in straight lines.
  • Embers underfoot: Jump across the glowing cracks and you will hear them crackle and hiss while sparks fly.
  • Armor: The armor pieces for head, chest, hands, legs and feet are ready, so later on you will see exactly what your hero is wearing.
  • Crafting and cooking: The Iron Sword is waiting in a chest and can be forged as well. At the campfire you can now roast berry skewers and mushroom skewers and pack trail rations for the road.
  • Conversations: Six new conversations guide you through the first stage, in German and English. Quests and texts now follow the language you pick in the game.
  • Wiki: The wiki grew a lot, with creatures, resources, tools, workbenches and professions.

What's next

Over the next few days we are focusing on our own tool, the Terra Engine. We are bringing everything we have built into one place and putting all of our artwork into a shared library. After that we will build the crash site piece by piece by hand, with real height to it, so that your first step on Veyl feels just right.

Thanks for following along.

See you tomorrow,

Tini & Marko
